We also had a hankering for fried fish (maybe because all Saints week is coming up? I’m not even sure what that is, but everyone here celebrates it), so the day we left for Cordoba, we had a small fish fry in our apartment. This resulted in two things: really good fish and fishy smelling clothes. Like all of our clothes, Even the ones we packed. One week later, we still smell like fish. Whatever, at least it keeps the pick-pocketers at bay and we fit right in with the our dorm mates.
Now back to travel updates.. On our second day in Cordoba, we decided to leave town and visit, Alta Gracia, a small village about 40 minutes away. Argentine born “Che” Ernesto Gueverra lived in Alta Gracia during his youth and his previous home is now a pretty cool museum. Also, there is a UNESCO protected Jesuit Estancia in town. We took a small bus with mainly local university students. Turns out that a lot of them live outside of town. Anyways, it was scorching hot when we pulled into this little, silent town. We walked up and down a few hilly sidewalks until we arrived at Che’s house. The museum was pretty cool and it even had his motorcycle on display (or maybe it was a replica). You know, the one with which he rode through South America. If you haven’t seen Motorcycle Diaries, you really should check it out. Great movie. Anyways, there were lots of photos of the Castro brothers during the Revolution and many cigars on display. Too bad Cuba didn’t turn out to be what Che was dreaming of..
After Che’s house we visited the Jesuit Estancia. It had a pretty church.
After visiting the estancia, we stumbled across this little gem. I guess the drunk driver’s here look like witches.
We left Alta Gracia and headed back to Cordoba to catch our next overnight bus to Salta. Yah!
