High Rollers

Bus Ticket

Today we are taking an overnight bus to Cordoba in First Class or “suite” as they call it. That’s right, folks. First class on a bus. We also have access to the “VIP Lounge” in the bus terminal. Classy. We took a peak yesterday when we purchased the tickets. It looks a lot like the eating area of a fancy McDs. Supposedly, the ride will go something like this:

Our seats are said to recline 180 degrees (fully flat) and we will be greeted with champagne upon entering the bus. Once the trip begins, we will be served a hot dinner with wine. After dinner, a movie will begin playing while we sip either Tia Maria (tequila, I think) or whiskey, depending on our preferences. Then we will slowly fall asleep to the sounds of an amazing movie. But first, we will close the curtains surrounding our seats so we have more privacy whilst sleeping. In the morning, we will be awoken with breakfast prior to arrival.
Right. Let’s just remember that we are STILL on a BUS, people. We took countless buses throughout China, Vietnam and Thailand. They were all pretty decent with big comfy seats, some better than others, and the most we paid was $27USD. Always we made a couple of stops, one of which was at a restaurant where they fed us (included in the ticket). Today’s “suite” ticket cost $65USD per person. Outrageous. We have heard so much about the buses in this country. The locals swear by them, but maybe they haven’t traveled in other parts of the world where buses are a huge deal. Let’s hope it delivers, but I’m expecting pretty much the same thing as in Asia, only this time cheap alcohol will be included. Oh, and no stops, meaning we all use a toilet on the bus. Ick. The only comforting thought is that they won’t be playing any Kung Fu movies in the Argentina buses and the risk of dengue is low to non-existent. I hope.

We’re heading to Cordoba at 11pm. It’s about 9 hours or so from Buenos Aires. Most likely, Argentina’s buses are the best in South America, but I don’t know if that says a lot. Nonetheless, we are excited to experience this and happy it will be over in no more than 10 hours after it begins.

We will report back with details. Wish us luck!!
