A Racy Topic

There is a new scholarship that is causing a lot of controversy. It’s a scholarship exclusively for white males and funded by a group of students at Texas State. But you don’t have to be 100% white. The group will accept apps from those who are at least 25% white. It’s an interesting development in a state where non-Hispanic whites are the minority.
Census numbers released earlier this month show that they make up about 42% of the state's population. And that’s why Texas has the best Mexican food outside of Mexico. According to Reuters:
It is true that scholarships for your average white male are difficult to find, but this isn’t without reason. As late as 1947, about one third of African Americans over 65 were considered to lack the literacy to read and write their own names. There is definitely an achievement gap as whites have historically been given more opportunities than African Americans, among other minorities. No one is arguing that. And Hispanic Americans lag even further behind.
I think this is pretty interesting and many people seem to agree with the white male scholarship idea. We’ll see what happens.
